Biographical Information
Phillip Magnuson is a professor emeritus in theory, composition, and viola at the University of Dayton. He holds a bachelor's degree from Duke University, a master's in composition from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a doctorate in composition from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and studied at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome. In 1985, he received the Outstanding Teaching Award from the College of Arts and Sciences. He has won composition awards from Duke University, the National Federation of Music Clubs, Broadcast Music Inc., the Cornish Institute, and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and is a member of ASCAP. His compositions range from solo vocal and chamber music to choral, orchestra, and band works.
