The Evolving Landscape of Human Rights in Higher Education

Abstract

The members of the steering committee of the University and College Consortium for Human Rights Education (UCCHRE) have been engaged in a variety of human rights education efforts. In this roundtable they will share steps taken as a result of the pandemic as well as work started before. Presentations will include that at the University of Connecticut the relationship between human rights education, civic education, and the promotion of democracy is being explored through teacher education. At the University of New Mexico curriculum relating to the students’ right to food and housing is being developed. Efforts from Columbia University on HRE for law faculty in Myanmar before and since the coup will be presented. And Felisa Tibbitts will present on her research on HRE in social work and psychology education. We will also share the work of the UCCHRE over the past year and allow time to explore other participants' concerns related to human rights education.
