Description
Another depiction of a canopy gap. This canopy tree died and created a space where light could penetrate the understory beneath. Vegetation that falls under the new gap will compete for the limiting resource of light to grow. Eventually a tree that outcompetes everything else will shoot up into the canopy, filling the gap space again.
