Description
Grace Attea, Master's student and project leader, and Dr. Ryan McEwan, Principal Investigator and botanist extraordinaire, identifying an elm (Ulmus) tree. Elm trees have never been identified down to species in this study plot due to time restrictions. This picture was taken during a botany sleuthing quest where Dr. McEwan showed students how to look at bark characteristics of elm trees, such as bark that resembles "layered cake."
