In 2014, the University of Dayton hosted its first metal music conference, Metal and Cultural Impact: Metal's Role in the 21st Century. Scholars and enthusiasts from throughout the United States and several foreign countries presented on topics from politics and business to sexuality and stagecraft.
A second conference, Metal in Strange Places, is scheduled to be in Dayton October 20-22, 2016.
