About the ConferenceThe Metal in Strange Places conference is a three-day event that examines, in broad terms, the history of metal by through lenses such as genres, bands, cultures or countries.
Metal studies conferences have been occurring with more regularity in places such as England, Germany, Finland, Puerto Rico, and the U.S., to name a few. These conferences have expanded the field of metal research and scholarship. Metal in Strange Places extends that expansion with papers by faculty, graduate students, independent scholars, and even fans of metal music and culture.
Metal in Strange Places will include three keynote speakers and 13 individual sessions. A concluding metal show, featuring three Ohio metal bands, will raise money for two local charities.
