The concept behind my work is based on the mental state quarantining alone puts people in. After talking to some friends who had previously gotten the virus, they said that the worst part of having COVID-19 was having to quarantine alone while people were being able to see each other again. I then did some reminiscing on my experience of being on lockdown at home; feeling bored, lonely and frustrated were all emotions that I experienced as well. These were emotions that were felt by friends too.
I then did some research and found out that quarantining took a mental toll on the humans of 2018 as well as 2020, which then connected with the theme of the project. I began sketching out ideas to capture this feeling, and I felt that making the main object in pencil was needed to create what I wanted. This was because with pencil, one can add contour and stress lines to objects to make them seem emotional because of all the movement and repetition. I altered and changed the color of my work multiple times in order to find the best color-way that fit the mood of the work, which was lonely-stressing.
I then included text that looked grunge, because it added a certain intensity to the image that created the feeling of chaos for me. It was overall really fun trying to create this feeling in the form of a collage.
