Why the honoree chose the book
Democracy is made; it doesn't just happen. In order to build and maintain a multiracial democracy, democratic institutions must be protected, but also reformed to incorporate the diversity and pluralism of a polity. This book explains in perfect detail how the early and imperfect compromises that formed America's institutions have been exploited and leveraged in favor of political minorities and to the detriment of the will of the people.
