Why the honoree chose the book
Why are some countries rich while others are poor? This is one of the fundamental questions in development economics and what motivated me to pursue graduate studies in the first place. I was fascinated by the geographical, environmental, and historical perspectives on the evolution of human societies discussed in this book, and I strongly recommend it to anyone interested in development and growth economics.
