Why the honoree chose the book
Fragile Neighborhoods explores the problem of social disconnection in the U.S. and highlights a wide body of research showing that revitalizing our neighborhoods and local institutions is vital for solving our social problems. The book gives examples of creative problem-solvers doing this work and offers practical steps that can be taken to impact place-based systems change. This work is an inspiring reminder that if we are going to solve our social problems, we have to overcome fear and build real community, connection, and trust.
