Why the honoree chose the book
I stumbled across this book at a used bookstore shortly after beginning my appointment as an assistant professor. I was immediately enchanted by the title. Despite being a dedicated reader of weird fiction, I had never encountered a book like this that so seamlessly blended elements of horror with satire of the absurdities of academia. It was exactly what I needed at the time and is a book I have returned to time and again since first reading it.
