Why the honoree chose the book

Thompson is a foundational thinker in disability studies, and this book, though not explicitly about ancient history or the New Testament, radically shifted the way that I think about bodies ancient and modern. Anyone who lives in a body, extraordinary or not, benefits from her work and the way that she challenges us to see our own role in the cultural value systems that we inherit and perpetuate.
