Why the honoree chose the book

This work presents several proofs of the Index Theorem of Atiyah-Singer. This is one of the fundamental results in mathematics during the 20th century. It has applications in quantum field theory and string theory. Although it is not an easy read, this book is the best resource for learning this theory.
