Abstract
According to poet-mythologist Robert Bly, "the ancient rites of male initiation were complicated and subtle experiences … a continual spiral … " through four recurring seasons: 1) bonding with and separation from mother; 2) bonding with and separation from father; 3) discovery of the "male mother"; 4) the interior marriage with the Hidden Woman (the "Eve" presence within). Bly goes on to describe the first season-beginning with the instantaneous birth-bonding, recurring with later bonding episodes, and concluding with separation from mother.
