Abstract
Literature and the media frequently imply that men are a powerful, independent class of autonomous leaders. The women's movement has attempted to thrust its members into this illusory class while maintaining significant status/preferential treatment for women. While society perceives women as being freed of restrictive roles to gain greater parity with men, we must also recognize that men's gender-role pigeonhole is as restrictive as at any time in history. The stereotype prevails: men are providers.
