Abstract
Aristotle begins Metaph. Z with an assertion: "Being is spoken of in many ways" [to on legetai pollachos] and elaborates upon this statement by correlating the various modes of being with a list of things that being, or perhaps, the term "being" signifies. Being, we are told, signifies on the one hand what Aristotle calls the what it is and the this [to ti esti kai tode ti], and on the other hand Signifies the what-like, or the how-much, or each of the other kinds of predicables that are like these.
