Abstract
The massive United States military deployment in the Arabian peninsula which began August 1990 completed a process of recolonization of the region, a process which has been ongoing for more than two decades. It was preceded by the United States' naval buildup of the eighties and the reflagging of the Kuwaiti oil tankers during the Iraq-Iran War.
