Abstract
Ayn Rand was born Alice Rosenbaum to a Jewish family in St. Petersburg, Russia, on February 2, 1905. As many occupations were closed to Jews in this time and culture, her father followed the path of an entrepreneur, becoming a "self-made man," a pharmacist. Alice was twelve years old at the time of the Communist Revolution.
