Abstract

This qualitative study examined the impact of academic advising on students' educational achievements and future employment outlook. Utilizing a phenomenological approach, the study explored students' lived experiences with academic advisors across four Tribeca University campuses (pseudonym). Data were collected through semi- structured interviews with six participants, including students and alumni, and analyzed using qualitative content analysis (QCA). Key findings indicated that while advisors played an essential role in guiding students academically, their impact on career preparedness varied. Themes identified included advisors as administrative guides vs. mentors, development of soft skills, accessibility of advisors, and motivation for learning. The study highlighted the need for holistic advising models that integrated career counselling and personalized support. Findings suggested that enhancing the frequency and quality of advisor-student interactions could improve student satisfaction, retention rates, and career readiness. These insights contributed to the ongoing discourse on academic advising and student success.
