Description

Many students and faculty report deficits in their attention. This fall, teacher education students in my Philosophy & History of Education classes studied 21st-century research into attention and discussed their experiences and observations of issues related to attention. While most students initially felt that their attention deficits were primarily matters of personal inadequacy, they discovered through weeks of discussion that these are in fact shared and emanate from larger forces in our society. This led teacher candidates to report a greater sense of agency over their attention and to articulate practical approaches to working with their own students who may similarly struggle with deficits of attention. This presentation will share these perspectives.
