Description

With this session, I showcase how I have used social media platforms like TikTok to reframe students' perceptions of research. One successful example is teaching students to investigate the source of viral audio, then mirroring that investigation in their research strategies. Another strategy includes presenting students with a TikTok that presents obvious misinformation and asking them how they may verify or disprove the false claims. What makes this strategy particularly effective is that it acknowledges and relies upon students' existing expertise and information-seeking behavior, building a sense of mutual respect and trust in students' abilities.
