Description
"SEO" is a play off of "Search Engine Optimization," which is a core principle of digital marketing, the course I teach, which was popularized by search engines like Google.
Situation: Student expectations have grown. Students demand a better learning experience. Students have greater access to information than ever before in history.
Task: How does a faculty member best engage with students to ensure their voices are being heard while simultaneously delivering a high-quality academic learning experience?
Approach: 1) Collect impromptu student feedback at the conclusion of each class. 2) Appoint a student liaison to share anonymous class concerns. 3) Activate immediately on appropriate student suggestions.
Results: I've taken this approach for four years with over 150 students. Key takeaways include: 1) A student sharing a concern over lack of diversity in guest speakers, which was corrected in future classes. 2) Students requesting to submit assignments via TikTok rather than YouTube or Zoom recording. 3) Liaison sharing disruptive peer behavior in virtual breakout rooms when adjunct wasn't present. 4) Share an appropriate SET question supporting feedback.
