This paper attempts to draw attention to setbacks in the development of lesbian characters in television using the lens of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The fashion and villainization of lesbian characters as well as their misrepresentation regarding bisexuality are all examined in this analysis of the way heterosexual norms affect how lesbianism is portrayed in media. The purpose of this essay is to explain how stereotypes stemming from societal beliefs regarding lesbians feed into and are amplified by representations of lesbians in television.
