The theme for this assignment was to analyze some aspect of gender roles in a piece of popular culture. I chose to write about the portrayal of female characters in the novel The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien. After I picked this topic, I brainstormed ideas, wrote a research proposal, found sources, wrote an annotated bibliography, wrote the draft, had it peer reviewed, then edited it to the final version.
