About the Journal

The Journal of Dietetic Education is dedicated to providing an outlet for dissemination of rigorous studies and commentaries related to innovations and best practices in educating future and current dietitians. Articles considered for publication address current topics such as advances in technology in education; experiential learning; curriculum development; approaches for evaluating accreditation competencies and knowledge requirements; and innovations in diversity, equity, and inclusion in education. Articles address pedagogy across undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education. See Aims and Scope for more information.

The journal is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal and an outlet for scholarly work related to education in dietetics. The inaugural issue was released in January 2023. Manuscript submissions are invited year round for review in one of two issues per year. Please refer to the manuscript submission guidelines for instruction on article formatting and submission.

Open Access

JDE is committed to providing truly open access information for the public to benefit from knowledge shared by authors who publish in JDE. JDE is an open-access journal, which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or their institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of all articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access.
JDE is able to provide open access free of charge to authors through eCommons, an electronic digital archive and repository supported by University of Dayton (UD) Libraries. The UD Libraries pay annual fees to support eCommons as a free and accessible platform to disseminate knowledge and information to the public. We firmly believe in the value of open access to benefit dietetic researchers, instructors, students, and their future clients. JDE does not support predatory publishing in any format.

Review Process

Each manuscript submitted to JDE will be reviewed by at least one member of the Editorial Board to determine if it aligns with the mission, aims, and scope of the journal. Those manuscripts approved for further consideration will undergo an anonymous review by two to three reviewers who are experts in dietetic education. Authors can expect reviews to be completed within approximately 10-15 weeks. Authors will receive their reviews along with a letter from the editor stating the decision from review: accepted, accepted with minor changes, major changes required, or rejected. Rejected articles are not eligible for resubmission to JDE. When the decision is to revise, authors should make the recommended changes and resubmit the manuscript within 30 days to continue toward publication. An extension may be requested. The Editors and Editorial Board make the final decision regarding publication of papers and reserve the right to refuse manuscripts for publication.
